Esports World Cup Paris 2026: press relations for a global event relocated in three months

The StoryMob, the Esports Foundation's global communications agency, called on RevolutionR to handle the French market and co-manage the press room for the Esports World Cup Paris 2026, the world's largest esports competition, relocated from Riyadh to Paris.

From 20 April to 20 May 2026, the agency co-led the entire launch strategy with The StoryMob and the Élysée Palace teams, right up to the presidential announcement. Over the seven weeks of the event, the agency generated 2,527 articles in 636 French media outlets, 8.1 billion in reach and $73.3M in media value, and brought esports into the French mainstream media.

The challenge

How could a global event still unknown to the general public be established in the French media in under three months, and how could the Esports World Cup become national news, beyond the specialist gaming press?

On 20 April 2026, The StoryMob, the Esports Foundation's global agency, informed RevolutionR (which had been entrusted with the French market) that the Esports World Cup might move from Riyadh to Paris. From 20 April to 20 May, RevolutionR and The StoryMob co-led the entire launch strategy with the Élysée Palace teams: announcement sequence, messaging, timeline and coordination between the French and Saudi parties. The official announcement was made at the Élysée Palace on 20 May. That left just a few weeks to roll out a press operation worthy of an event featuring 25 tournaments across 24 games, 2,000 players and $75M in prize money.

RevolutionR handled all press relations on the French market, from designing the announcement through to the closing ceremony, and co-managed the event's press room with The StoryMob.

  • Launch phase (20 April – 20 May 2026): co-led with The StoryMob, alongside the Élysée Palace teams, the entire launch strategy — announcement scenario, key messages, media calendar and preparation of the presidential announcement on 20 May.

  • Official press conference at Paris City Hall on 8 July 2026: in front of more than 300 international journalists, in the presence of the Mayor of Paris, the Minister for Sport, HRH Prince Faisal and Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports World Cup Foundation.

  • Press room and Content Hub: co-managed with The StoryMob throughout the 7 weeks of the event at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, with more than 1,200 journalist accreditation requests processed.

  • Production of all press materials: press releases, press kits, media briefs, Q&A documents, economic impact materials.

  • Protocol communications: for the Counter-Strike final at the Accor Arena and the closing ceremony at the Grand Palais, where the trophy was presented by the President of the Republic: official press releases in French and English, and management of diplomatic titles and forms of address.

  • Strategy to win over general-interest media: business, diplomacy, sport, society and tech angles, to take esports beyond its editorial niche.

  • Continuous media monitoring and coverage measurement: with weekly reporting to the client.

What this case demonstrates

RevolutionR can roll out, at very short notice, a press relations operation on the scale of a global event, bringing together state protocol, diplomacy, sport and gaming culture.

It builds on 20 years of esports and gaming communications for Nintendo, Bandai, Webedia esport, BLAST, NEO and more.
